Experience the timeless wonders of Japan over 18 momentous days as you travel from Fukuoka to Tokyo via a collection of incredible destinations, including Hiroshima, Kyoto, Kanazawa, Takayama and Hakone. Our Journey Designers have carefully selected a range of authentic, off-the-beaten-track experiences to bring you a true taste of Japan’s iconic culture and heritage, from a Scenic Enrich traditional tea and drum ceremony in Kanazawa, to a visit to the Daio Farm where you’ll learn the origins of Japanese wasabi. This extraordinary journey brings the Japan of your imagination to life.

Welcome to Fukuoka, a historic city that boasts some of Japan’s oldest heritage landmarks, including Shōfuku-ji, the oldest Zen Temple in the country. From here, take the Shinkansen bullet train to Hiroshima, before marvelling at the 6th-century floating Torii Gate of the Itsukushima Shrine. Scenic Enrich invites you to experience the Peace Park and Museum, built to commemorate those lost in the atomic bombing during WWII, as well as Orizuru Tower, where you’ll learn the ancient art of origami. The beautiful city of Kyoto is next, and here you’ll enjoy a memorable three-night stay, with the opportunity to dine in the exquisite Gion District. Experience Japanese high tea in Kanazawa, stroll the stalls of the famous Miyagawa produce market in Takayama, and experience the stunning scenery of the Kawaguchiko Area. Tokyo is the final stop on your journey, and here you’ll enjoy an exclusive Sundowners event, raising a glass to the incredible skyline, before experiencing three days in this incomparable city.

This evening enjoy your welcome reception at your luxury hotel in Fukuoka for the next two nights.

Day 3
Fukuoka
Highlights: Kushida Shrine, Freechoice

Visit Shofuku-ji, the oldest Zen Temple in Japan and the sixth century Kushida Shrine. Next, wander through the Hakata Machiya Folk Museum where you can witness first-hand the prestigious Hakata-ori woven textile being made.

Freechoice

Shop to your heart’s content at Canal City or visit Maizuru Park and the castle ruins located within before enjoying the view from Fukuoka Tower.

Day 4
Fukuoka > Hiroshima > Miyajima Island
Highlights: Itsukushima Shrine Miyajima Island

Travel by Shinkansen train to Hiroshima. Later sail by ferry to Miyajima Island to visit Daisho-in Temple and the floating sixth century Torii Gate at the Itsukushima Shrine. Tonight, sample Okonomiyaki, a delicious Japanese-style pancake, a speciality of the region. You’ll enjoy two restful nights in Hiroshima.

Highlights: Mazda Car Factory, Enrich - Peace Park and Museum

This morning see the industrial robots perform around the Mazda car factory.

Enrich

Experience an emotional visit to the Peace Park and Museum before visiting Orizuru Tower to create your own special origami donation.

Hiroshima > Kyoto
Highlights: Himeji Castle

Travel by Shinkansen to marvel at Himeji Castle, an original and Japan’s most spectacular castle before continuing to Kyoto, home to many World Heritage-listed Sites. Begin a memorable three night stay in Kyoto.

Day 7
Kyoto
Highlights: Freechoice, Enrich - Maiko (apprentice Geisha) dinner

Freechoice: Revel in the atmosphere of the ancient preservation districts or visit the Silver Pavilion and then stroll along the Philosopher’s Walk. Alternatively visit the Fushimi Inari Shrine, featured in the movie Memoirs of a Geisha and marvel at the architecture of Nijo Castle, a classic reminder of the fascinating Edo-period shogunate’s power.

Enrich
After strolling through the Gion District, tonight’s dinner will allow you to interact with a Maiko who’ll host your meal presentation. It’s an excellent opportunity to learn about what is involved in becoming a Geisha and the art of Japanese hospitality.

Freechoice

Kyoto > Nara

Enjoy an excursion to Nara, where you’ll visit Todaiji Temple and Nara Park. En-route back you’ll stop for some sake tasting and visit a sake museum.

Choose between Japanese cuisine at Shinensen Heihachi, or international cuisine at the historic Fortune Garden.

Day 9
Kyoto > Kanazawa
Highlights: Kenroku-en Gardens

Visit the Kinkaku-ji or Golden Pavilion before travelling by Shinakansen to Kanazawa. Upon arrival wander around Kenroku-en Garden, one of Japan’s three great gardens located across from Kanazawa Castle Park. Enjoy a two night stay.

Day 10
Kanazawa
Highlights: Kaga Clan Samurai Houses , Enrich - Tea Ceremony

This morning visit Omi-cho Market, commonly known as Ishikawa’s Kitchen with over 180 stalls.

Later catch a glimpse of life in Feudal Japan with a visit to former Kaga Clan Samurai houses in the Nagamachi district.

Savour the best local Kaga cuisine or enjoy international fare.

Ryokan Upgrade
Choose to stay tonight in a Ryokan, a traditional Japanese Inn with futon beds and private facilities including dinner and breakfast (additional cost).

Enrich

Explore the historic Higashi Chaya Teahouse district and partake in a Japanese tea and drum ceremony whilst dressed in a traditional Japanese kimono, a great photo opportunity.

Kanazawa > Takayama
Highlights: Shirakawa-go

Cross beautiful countryside on your drive to Takayama stopping en-route at the famous traditional farmhouses of Shirakawa-go. Continue to Takayama and begin a two night stay with amazing views over the Takayama township.

Day 12
Takayama
Highlights: Miyagawa markets, Freechoice Dining

Begin the day wandering through Miyagawa morning markets before gaining unique insights into the region’s culture and history at the various museums, including the Festival Float Exhibition Hall. After lunch, partake in Sarubobo mascot-making at the Hida Folk Village before exploring Takayama’s old quarter’s small alley ways and shops.

Choose between Le Midi, a French-inspired bistro in town famed for its Hida Beef, or Sakanaya, a fine Japanese restaurant set in a renovated former sake brewery near your hotel.

Day 13
Takayama > Matsumoto > Five Lakes
Highlights: Matsumoto Castle, Freechoice Dining

Drive to Matsumoto to visit one of Japan’s most beautiful and original castles, the unique ‘hirajiro’ style Matsumoto Castle. Then continue to the Daio Wasabi Farm to learn how they make wasabi. As you venture deep into the stunning scenery of Kawaguchiko Area, discover the incredible workmanship involved in creating kimonos at the Itchiku Kubota Art Museum. Lastly soak in the views of Mt Fuji from your lovely hotel.

Choose between Japanese or French menus at the hotel restaurant.

Day 14
Five Lakes > Hakone > Tokyo
Highlights: Sundowner on dinner cruise

Moving to Hakone, walk around the hot springs of the Owakudani geothermal area before admiring the stunning scenery during your cable car ride down to your Lake Ashinoko cruise. Later study the art works and sculptures at the Hakone Open Air Museum before continuing to Tokyo and your wonderful Special Stay hotel for the next three nights.

Sundowners

This evening, take in the bright lights of Tokyo during your dinner cruise on Tokyo Bay on a yakabutane, an old fashioned houseboat.

Highlights: Enrich - Sushi making, Freechoice

Wander through the Tsukiji Fish Market to see the mornings catch being distributed.

Choose from a contemporary Asian mix at China Blue or culturally immerse yourself in the traditional Japanese evening bar scene serving Yakatori.

Enrich

Immerse yourself in Japanese cuisine with the help of a local chef, as you prepare your own sushi lunch.

Freechoice

Visit the Imperial Shinto Meiji Shrine, before seeing the Shibuya scramble crossing. Alternatively wander through picturesque Shinjuku-Gyoen Gardens before witnessing the Shinjuku entertainment district come alive at dusk.

Tokyo
Highlights: Asakusa old town, Sensoji Temple, Sumida River cruise

Today visit the Asakusa district, paying your respects at Sensoji, the city’s oldest Buddhist temple before enjoying a cruise along the Sumida River. Later, walk through the peaceful Hama-Rikyu Gardens located across from your hotel. Tonight relive your experiences at your beautiful farewell dinner.
