Favourite Cruise: Treasures of the Rhine
“I love to see all the fantastic scenery of the Rhine Gorge – all the wonderful and historic castles, and the quaint towns and cities that you visit. This cruise also visits Amsterdam where you can visit Anne Frank’s house or take a mini canal cruise which is great fun.”
Favourite Cruise Memory/Experience
“As part of the Scenic Freechoice selection, we had a choice of four tours that were on offer, I chose to explore the towns of Volendam and Edam whilst in Amsterdam – and what an experience!
“We visited a cheese factory where we saw how Edam amongst other cheeses were made, and got to sample them all. Whilst on the walking tour of the towns it was great to use my GPS device, which allowed me to hear the group guide clearly and easily.
“Once back on board the ship I ventured into Amsterdam on my own using the Scenic Tailormade GPS device. This was fantastic as it indicated points of interest and gave a running commentary – just like having my own personal guide at all times.”

Favourite Cruise: Gems of the Danube
“I love the way this itinerary combines gorgeous quaint little towns like Regensburg and Durnstein with the majestic cities like Vienna and Budapest. Every day you think it can’t get any better than this, yet every day it does!”
Favourite Cruise Memory/Experience
“My favourite memory from a Scenic cruise was in Bruges. I sat with a new friend I’d met only a few days before, on the ship, and we both had a Belgian waffle with all of the trimmings, and a Belgian beer. We sat for an hour people-watching on the central square and sharing stories. It cemented a great friendship and is a memory I treasure.”
Independent Travel Writers
Having enjoyed a cruise on Europe’s waterways in the past, we called upon the expertise of independent female travel writers, Teresa Keane and Sue Bryant, to help us showcase the delights of a luxury river cruise for female travellers.
Teresa Keane, Independent Travel Help
“I have been on a few short river cruises over the years. One of the most memorable was a trip down the Danube. I was so excited, after years of hearing about it, to finally see it, and be actually on the Danube, enjoying the wonderful scenery of Buda and Pest as we passed by, drink in hand.”
Sue Bryant, Travel Writer and Editor
“I sailed on the Danube during what was the hottest summer on record in Vienna. Being on board was wonderful because of the cooling river breezes when the ship was sailing. We sat in one of the beautiful parks at night drinking Aperol Spritzes feeling as though we were in the tropics and the next day, after the sightseeing tour, there was only one thing left to do: what the locals do when it gets hot, which is swim in the Danube!
“There are lovely, safe swimming beaches on the Donauinsel (Danube Island) recreation area really close to where the ships dock. Unorthodox, maybe, but one of the best decisions I have ever made on a cruise. Mind you, getting back to the air conditioning on board was good, too.”
