EU to finance modernisation of Budapest tram lines

It is being reported that the European Union has agreed to finance a new project to modernise the tram lines in Budapest. The plans will see tram line 1 between Becsi ut and Stadionok and sections of line 3 being rebuilt. 100 new light rail vehicles are also set to be purchased after Hungary’s minister of transport signs a document that will allow the Budapest Transport Company access to EU funding. Trams are an important part of Budapest’s public transport system which is important to both visitors and residents of the city. It is said to be very reliable and extensive despite being old and having a poor infrastructure. You can visit Budapest on our fantastic European river cruises such as the 15 day Jewels of Europe.
