New Zealand Could Receive New Long Weekends

Waitangi Day and Anzac Day, both public holidays in New Zealand, may become “Mondayised” if calls from New Zealand’s tourism sector are listened to. Mondayising means that if the public holidays fall on a weekend, the following Monday is made a public holiday. Waitangi Day is held on February 6th and remembers the day when the Treaty of Waitangi was signed, the document that led to the founding of New Zealand. Anzac Day is the national day of remembrance in New Zealand and Australia, originally commemorating the involvement of the Australia and New Zealand Army Corps in World War I, but now representative of all those who died in military conflicts. They’re two examples of New Zealand’s rich cultural heritage, and, regardless of whether they become Mondayised or not, will continue to remember New Zealand’s past.
