According to a travel news website, the villages in the Black Forest look like "fairytale scenes come to life", with the cabin-like architecture, green forests and sprinkling of snow completing the picture. The most impressive part of one of the towns is the local Advent calendar which involves a new image appearing each day in one of the 24 windows of the Town Hall. By Christmas Eve, the building looks wonderful as one of the world's biggest Advent calendars.
Although particularly wonderful to visit in the winter months, the Vogtsbauernhof open air museum is a fascinating place to explore in the Black Forest, and any opportunity to try the famous Black Forest cake is sure to be welcomed. An ideal place to visit whilst on a Rhine river cruise, the Black Forest is a real highlight of Germany.
