Sydney man named Australia's best bartender

Luke Ashton, bartender at Vasco in Surry Hills, took part in a three-day competition which saw the contestants undertake a number of challenges, including the task of creating a cocktail to be paired with a dish. As part of another task, Luke invented a decadent cocktail to go with his 80s themed concept bar that was particularly well received. As the winner of this prestigious competition, Luke has been given $100,000 to put towards starting up his own bar in Sydney, and in July he will compete against 49 other bartenders to be named the best bartender in the world. Last year, Australian Tim Philips was named global champion, and Luke Ashton will be hoping to follow in his footsteps and continue Australia's reputation for being home to some of the best cocktail makers in the world.
