2013 to be named as record year Vienna tourism

The research by Vienna tourism bosses show that from January to the start of December in 2013 there was a 3.4 percent increase compared to the same period in 2012, with an estimated 11.6 million people staying overnight in Vienna during the period.

It is believed that those who have stayed in the Austrian capital are visitors who have been on family river cruises, was popular with visitors from Germany, Austria, Russia, Switzerland, Spain, Japan and the US; the Vienna Tourist Board also announced that all different types of hotels in the city had seen an increase in the number of visitors throughout 2013.

This research should not really come as a surprise, as Vienna is seen by many as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, with its stunning waterways and palaces such as Schonbrunn and Hofburg Palace.

Vienna is a popular destination for families and couples, with popular attractions being the Vienna State Opera, St. Stephens Cathedral and its array of museums, including Kunst Historisches Museum Wien.
