Vienna Tourism has record breaking July

Austria is proving that it is not just a great country to visit for skiing holidays, but is a fantastic place to visit at any time of the year, after experiencing record number tourist numbers in July. A record number of overnight stays for July were reported by Vienna Tourism, with 1.2million people wishing to have a prolonged stay in the city. There were notable increases from countries both near and far from Austria, including Russia, USA, Germany and Spain. Due to the recent Olympic games held in the UK, Vienna did not experience a rise in tourist numbers from Great Britain, with many apparently choosing to stay in their home country to watch the once in a lifetime event and take holidays later in the year. Austria is already known as a popular skiing destination but these figures highlight that the country has a lot more to offer, particularly in Vienna. The historic city centre features on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and the city is famous for its classical music, glamorous balls and Christmas markets in the run up to the festive period. Anyone thinking of taking river cruises in Europe should certainly take some time to explore Vienna as part of a luxurious holiday experience, a city with a lot to offer. Image credit: luca.sartoni (
