Unveiling the coming season’s designs, New York Fashion Week hosts a variety of designer fashion shows, many of which are attended by celebrities such as the Olsen twins, Rihanna and Elle Fanning. Taking place at Damrosch Park in Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in Manhattan, those visiting New York while on escorted tours of the USA, will be able to enjoy some of the action, which will be the last time the event is hosted in this location.
In total, there will be 350 shows during the seven-day event, which will then be hosted in London, Milan and Paris in the next couple of weeks. New York Fashion Week is one of the most popular of these, and generates the city more than $532 million in spending, which is more than the 2014 Super Bowl in New Jersey and the New York Marathon.
A week full of surprises
Shows include collections by designers such as California-based Thomas Wylde and Norwegian Nina Skarra, who are just a small selection of the highlights of this highly anticipated event. More famous names that will be gracing the catwalk include Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Victoria Beckham.
As for models, one of the most anticipated appearances was that of Kylie Jenner, who was seen on the runway yesterday in a collaboration between Kanye West and Adidas. This week has already made history, with the first-ever model with Down syndrome walking on the catwalk, in a role-model show put together by designer Carrie Hammer.
New York Fashion Week is due to continue until 19th February, but those missing out this season can also look forward to the spring/summer unveiling in September.
