From the knowledgeable reservations team helping you find your dream river cruise to our attentive on board crew taking care of all your holiday needs; every member of the Scenic family goes to the Nth degree to ensure your time with us is as enriching, enjoyable and unforgettable as possible.
And we love what we do, helping you create memories and build friendships which will last a lifetime. In the Scenic Spotlight series, we take the chance to chat to members of our team about their time in the river cruise industry, what their day-to-day involves and what they enjoy most about working with Scenic.
This month, we are chatting to marketing executive, Lucy Gordon, about her role in the Scenic team, and how she spreads the message of Scenic river cruises.
Could you tell us a little about your role at Scenic? How long have you worked here, and what your day-to-day duties involve?
I will have been working at Scenic for a year in August, which has absolutely flown by. Day-to-day, I manage the offline marketing channels for Scenic such as press ads, direct mail, brochure production and press releases. Online, I liaise with our digital team to update the website, customer relationship management (CRM) system and weekly emails.
What do you enjoy most about working for Scenic?
I love working for a 5-star luxury brand, and with regular new and exciting additions to our river cruises and tours, no day is ever the same at Scenic.
How has the company changed since you began working here?
Next year, we launch Scenic Eclipse, the World’s First Discovery Yacht, which marked our entry into the luxury ocean cruising market. This is a massive step forward for the company and it’s an exciting time to be part of it as we continue to grow.
Have you ever been on a Scenic river cruise, and, how was it?
Yes, I was lucky enough to experience four days on board Scenic Opal, flying into Budapest and out of Vienna. What an experience! The Ship was beautifully appointed, with everything on board that you could want. A glass of Moet at breakfast, cocktails on the rooftop terrace as we passed beautiful scenery and my own personal butler service, I was in my element. I was also lucky enough to experience a private Viennese concert at Palais Lichtenstein, with arrangements from Mozart and Strauss performed live. Not my usual evening out, this was something I will certainly remember for the rest of my life.
Which is your favourite Scenic Space-Ship? And what features do you think guests can most look forward to during their time on board?
This would have to be our Scenic Diamond and Scenic Sapphire Ships which cruise the rivers of Southern France. They have been recently renovated to include a new Vitality pool, salt therapy lounge, two new one-bedroom Royal Owner’s Suites and Scenic Culinaire, where guests visit a local market with the ship’s chef and then come back on board and participate in a cookery demonstration. Being an avid foodie and wine lover, and with France the epicentre of cuisine and fine dining, these ships and the regions they cruise through are definitely a favourite of mine.
What one piece of advice would you give to those taking a river cruise for the first time?
Make sure you take a camera, if you don’t have a camera phone, as there will be plenty of opportunities to take photos you will cherish for years to come. I would also advise comfortable footwear as there is so much to discover in all these wonderful destinations by foot and on two-wheels, before you know it, you’ll have covered a fair distance.
Of all the excursions offered as part of Scenic Enrich and Freechoice, which is your favourite?
This is a difficult one as there is so many to choose from. I would probably say one of them up there near the top would be the new Scenic Enrich experience in Bordeaux, Château d'Agassac. The Château is absolutely stunning, and dating back to the 13th Century, is one of the oldest winemaking establishments in the region. Here, guests can enjoy the spectacular surroundings and an unforgettable evening concert as live musicians perform classical masterpieces.
Where would you like to travel in the future, and why?
I would love to travel to Russia, cruising down the Volga river. It is somewhere I have never been before and the mysteriousness of it intrigues me. With captivating history, glorious cities and cultural landmarks, Russia is definitely on my wish-list of places to go.
