Budapest public transport to upgrade ticket system

Budapest's public transport system includes the metro, tramlines, railway, a bus service, a trolley bus service and boat service, offering plenty of choice for visitors looking for ways to get around the city quickly and easily.

BKK, Budapest's transport centre, have opted to base their future public transport ticket system on a radio frequency identification system, meaning that public transport users will all carry a pass that resembles a bank card. This will help make using public transport quick and easy, eliminating the time delays caused by people trying to find correct fares in change and instead switching to a streamlined card-scanning system.

It is not yet known when this new card system will be rolled out, but it is expected to be hugely beneficial following the successful implementation of similar schemes in Chicago and Philadelphia.
