New Zealand celebrates their diverse wines

Winemaking is a very profitable industry for many countries, and it is certainly receiving a lot of attention in New Zealand. This week has seen the 17th annual Bragato wine awards recognise some of New Zealand’s top wines at the Romeo Bragato Conference, highlighting particularly the high standard of grapes produced in the country. Many regions were represented in the wine awards, demonstrating the diversity of wine that New Zealand produces. Awards were given out to subcategories in the following main categories: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Dessert Wines, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Rosé and Syrah. There were 534 entries in the competition with just 49 gold medals to be won; New Zealand has a number of great wines and the truly excellent examples were given the prestigious award. When exploring the country on New Zealand tours, visitors should definitely take the time to see some of the country’s wineries, whether local wineries or large wine growing regions such as Hawke’s Bay.
