Peru named South America’s culinary destination

At the recent World Travel Awards, known as the Oscars of the travel world, Peru won the prestigious award of being named South America’s leading culinary destination, beating other nominees which included Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Ecuador. There has been growing interest in Peruvian food worldwide; traditional foods such as quinoa have become regularly eaten dishes in other countries. To conjure up an idea of cuisine from Peru, think of seafood from the Pacific Ocean with corn, potatoes and a spicy sauce, with a dash of influence from Spanish, Chinese and West African flavours. Peru is now eligible to go into the final round which will declare the best culinary destination in the world, an award which will be announced in mid December. Having reached this stage of the competition, Peru will certainly be a must-visit destination on South America tours for all food fans. Image Credit: fabulousfabs (flickr.com)
