San Francisco named 5th most popular US destination

The Office of Travel and Tourism Industries (OTTI) recently released figures detailing the international arrivals recorded in December 2012, and found that the number of Europeans visiting the atmospheric city has been skyrocketing.

2012 saw nearly 1.4 million European individuals visit San Francisco on USA Tours and other holidays, with UK residents topping the list as the city’s number one market, accounting for 330,000 of all visitors welcomed that year, which represented a 10 percent rise on the previous year.

The overseas international market equates to 20 percent of San Francisco’s total visitor figure, with the city seeing 16.51 million people come to the famed cultural centre of Northern California in all.

The San Francisco Travel Association announced that they welcomed 2,906,000 international visitors in 2012 overall; this is a figure up from the almost as impressive 2,872,000 that came to the area in 2011.

Anticipation builds for 2013 figures

On the back of these strong numbers, the official tourism marketing body for the city, the Travel Association, looks set to continue its efforts to make San Francisco one of the most desirable destinations in the continental U.S.

The San Francisco Travel Association (SFTA) expects the number of overseas visitors to continue rising in 2014 and beyond, with the picture now looking more positive than ever, as SFTA president and CEO, Joe D’Alessandro, described in this article: “While the international visitor numbers have not yet been released for 2013, hosting the America’s Cup in San Francisco attracted countless international visitors to our city who enjoyed breathtaking views of our waterfront and near-perfect September weather”.

With two new dates recently added to the Scenic Tours Ultimate USA tour for 2014, which will see the final days of the tour’s itinerary spent in San Francisco, there is still the chance for guests to visit the city that is now starting to rival everywhere else in the U.S.
