Dordrecht Gets Replica of Noah’s Ark

The vessel matches the measurements of the ark in the bible, reaching three-hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high. A cubit is the distance from a man’s forearm from elbow to fingertips, and in metres the ark measures 137 long, 21 wide and 14 high. There are pairs of plastic animals around the ark for people to see, but it’s also home to a theatre, a restaurant and a conference centre with seating for 1,500, features which the bible doesn’t mention were present on the original ark. Johan Huibers, the man who built the ark, wants people to learn about the bible and be able to be able to see the stories in it come to life. It’s currently moored near Dordrecht and is open to visitors, and we head to the city during our European river cruises, meaning you might get a chance to see the ship yourself.
