European river cruises that visit Germany during October are more than likely to come across some Oktoberfest celebrations, known locally as 'die Wiesn', and although Munich is undoubtedly home to the biggest Oktoberfest celebrations, the event planned in Koblenz is sure to provide river cruise guests with the perfect opportunity to sample an authentic German festival.
Oktoberfest is packed with people wearing traditional dirndl dresses and lederhosen, and the smells of Würstl (sausages), Brezeln (pretzel) and Käsespätzle (cheese noodles) are sure to fill the air in the picturesque city of Koblenz. Local German beer will also be a prominent feature of Koblenzer Oktoberfest, as will wine from the Rhine Valley, and Schnaps. The entertainment programme for the festival is also packed with traditional German folk music, 'alpine rock' and more.
Oktoberfest celebrations in Koblenz will be occurring from 20th September until 12th October.
