New Orleans is a popular stop-off with travellers on perfect USA tours and is also renowned for having one of the world’s best music scenes, which is why all visitors should at least try and listen to some of the finest music you will ever hear when there.
The article in the Guardian has listed its top 10 music clubs in New Orleans, which are suitable for young or old and cover genres such as jazz, funk, soul, rap and bounce, but here we give you a list of our top five.
Located in the Tremé - a once famous musical neighbourhood - the Candlelight Lounge is now the last music club standing in the area. It is a popular attraction with holidaymakers and offers visitors performances from the likes of the popular Tremé Brass Band.
The Spotted Cat Music Club
The Spotted Cat Music Club is popular with international visitors and offers a range of live music. The finest up and coming jazz talents also regularly perform at this club, which is a popular destination for film stars visiting the city.
The Three Muses
Music, beverages and world-renowned tapas is what visitors to The Three Muses can expect. This venue offers a range of different music nights where some of the best-known jazz and Americana acts perform.
Maple Leaf Bar
This is regarded as the granddaddy of Uptown clubs and is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2014. Boasting a brand new sound system, the Maple Leaf Bar also hosts performances from the very best acts in funk.
Ooh Pooh Pah Doo Bar
Named after Jessie Hill’s 1960s R&B hit single and located on the vibrant Orleans Avenue, this club offers visitors a night packed full of home blues and jazz. The club has a real atmosphere with its low ceilings and friendly staff and is certainly worth a visit.
