The great capital cities of Europe offer up moments of outstanding cultural immersion, and over the course of our Gems of the Danube with Prague itinerary, you’ll have the chance to visit three of them - Budapest, Vienna and Prague. Your journey begins in Prague, the illustrious capital of the Czech Republic, where you can explore such sights as Charles Bridge, Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral. Next comes Vienna, but not before stops in Nuremberg, Regensburg, Passau and Melk, which in themselves offer up countless highlights — not least the chance to explore the wonderful Benedictine Abbey of Melk. After a stop in elegant Vienna, you’ll make for Budapest, the historic capital of Hungary which is so often called the prettiest city in Europe.

Day 1
UK > Prague
Choose from a selection of ways to travel to Prague. Pick from one of up to 14 regional airports or travel direct from London, Manchester or Birmingham. Start your journey with a three night stay at one of our city center hotels before being transferred to your Scenic-Space Ship in Nuremberg.

Prague

This morning join your knowledgeable local guide on a fascinating walk through the city and view the famous Astronomical Clock. Afterwards you might wish to venture across the world-famous Charles Bridge. This incredibly beautiful structure was commissioned in 1357 by Charles IV after the Judith Bridge was destroyed by floods.

Prague

Stroll this magnificent city at your leisure. Situated on the banks of the River Vltava in central Bohemia, the beautiful city of Prague is rich in history and home to some of the world’s most striking architectural wonders. There’s no need to plan ahead – your Tour Director is on hand to take care of everything.

Prague > Nuremberg

Journey by coach to fascinating Nuremberg in Bavaria, which dates back to the 11th century. Your cruise begins here, and you’ll get to toast the occasion at this evening’s welcome reception.

Day 6
Regensburg

At the confluence of three rivers, Regensburg offers a rich tapestry of experiences, from its medieval Old Town to the Bavarian Forest on its border.

Join the group for an enjoyable walk around Regensburg or hop on a local ferry and sail the Danube Gorge to view historic Weltenburg Abbey, where you can sample beer from one of the oldest monastic breweries in the world. Alternatively, you could take a leisurely cycle on your own to the Walhalla monument with your Tailormade GPS device.

Day 7
Passau > Linz

Freechoice: Take an excursion to the medieval Czech town of Cesky Krumlov and discover its World Heritage-listed old city, or journey to Salzburg and explore the birthplace of Mozart, and the city backdrop for the film ‘The Sound of Music’.

Melk > Dürnstein

Alternatively, if you’re feeling more active, embark on an enjoyable guided bike ride along the river from Melk to one of the most enchanting villages in the region, Dürnstein – at your own pace, of course. Or visit a local winery for a guided tour and tasting of its fine wines.

Sundowners
As the day ends, you’ll get to take in the fine views of the breathtakingly beautiful Wachau Valley. You’ll be in very fine company, and can expect a wonderful ending to a magnificent day. Of course, we can't take all the credit for this one. It’s nature who provides the view, we’re just bringing the drinks.

Vienna

Today you have options galore.

Take a guided tour of historic Bratislava or tour Schönbrunn Palace and witness the sheer opulence of the Habsburg Empire. Alternatively, visit the Belvedere Museum, one of Europe’s most stunning Baroque landmarks. You’ll have the opportunity to explore the greatest collection of Austrian art dating from the Middle Ages to the present day, complemented by the work of international artists such as Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, and Max Beckmann. The museum houses the world’s largest collection of Gustav Klimt’s paintings, including the famous golden Art Nouveau icons the Kiss and Judith.

Enrich

Breathe in the opulence and luxury of Palais Liechtenstein while enjoying a glass of fine Austrian Sekt. Then be enthralled by an enchanting private Viennese evening concert featuring the timeless music of Strauss and Mozart. Even in elegant Vienna, Palais Liechtenstein is one of the grandest of all venues.

Budapest

We find ourselves in Budapest, one of Europe’s oldest and prettiest cities.

Make the most of a guided tour of this city including a piano concert, or discover the Jewish heritage on a guided tour with an expert local guide. Alternatively, you can choose to journey to nearby riverside town in Pest County, Szentendre. Szentendre is known for its museums, galleries, and artists, and you’ll have the opportunity to discover this charming town on a guided city tour.

Budapest > UK
