From St Petersburg to Moscow, cruise the Volga through the Motherland, experiencing the cultural and historic legacy of the real Russia. Over the course of this special itinerary, you’ll be joined by none other than Strictly Come Dancing star, Darcey Bussell, who will accompany you on selected excursions and take part in a fascinating Q&A on board your luxury ship, the Scenic Tsar. St Petersburg is the starting point for this epic journey across Russia, and here you’ll explore Catherine’s Block, Peterhof’s Grand Palace and St Isaac’s Cathedral, before joining Darcey for an intimate Scenic Enrich ballet performance at the majestic Palace of Prince Vladimir. Leaving St Petersburg, cruise the famous Mother Volga through the Russian heartland, sampling local cultures in Mandrogi, Kizhi Island and Goritsy. Entering the ‘Golden Ring’ of Moscow, explore the ancient cities of Yaroslavl and Uglich, before venturing into the heart of the Russian capital. Moscow wears its rich history with pride, and you’ll see famous sights at every turn – from Red Square and the Kremlin, to St Basil’s Cathedral to the Moscow Metro. Dame  Darcey  Bussell  is  one  of  the  world’s  finest  ballerinas.
Having  become  the  youngest  ever  principal  dancer  at  the  Royal  Ballet  aged  just  20,  Darcey  admits  “I  was  amazed  when  it  happened,  totally  flabbergasted.  I  knew  I  had  it  in  me  to  be  a  principal,  but  I  just  didn’t  think  it  would  happen  that  early.  It  was  really  tough,  but  luckily  I  didn’t  have  time  to  think  about  it  too  much.”  Her  talent  and  technical  skill  saw  her  go  on  to  dance  for  the  world’s  most  acclaimed  ballet  companies,  including  being  the  only  Royal  Ballet  dancer  to  perform  at  the  Kirov  in  Russia.  Now,  Scenic guests  can  enjoy  time  with  the  dancer,  author  and  presenter  on  this  special  cruise  revealing  the  cultural  delights  of  Russia.  

You  will  join  Darcey  in  St  Petersburg  and  discover  her  insights  and  tales  from  her  career  and  time  dancing  in  Russia  in  conversation  with  Dance  Critic  Mark  Monahan.  You  will  also  receive  a  signed  keepsake  from  Darcey  and  join  her  and  Mark  for  a  very  special  ballet  performance  by  one  of  the  city’s  ballet  companies.

15 Day Itinerary

  1. Day 1 - St. Petersburg

    Welcome to St. Petersburg. If you had a hundred years, you couldn’t exhaust all the wonder on offer here.

  2. Day 2 - St. Petersburg

    Explore Catherine’s Block and the fountains in the Lower Garden at Peterhof on a guided tour, or be seduced by the sheer extravagance of Peterhof’s Grand Palace. Alternatively, wander the incomparable Upper and Lower Gardens at Peterhof.

    Enjoy lunch in a local St. Petersburg restaurant, followed by a guided tour of this beautiful metropolis.

  3. Day 3 - St. Petersburg

    Visit magnificent St. Isaac’s Cathedral or discover the Yusupov Palace.

    Following lunch in a local restaurant, enjoy a cruise along the city’s canals.

    Today, Darcey Bussell will join you on board for the next 2 days. Whilst on board, she will host a cocktail reception, be interviewed by The Telegraph’s Dance Critic, Mark Monahan and join you at a Russian ballet concert.

  4. Day 4 - St. Petersburg

    Visit Catherine’s Palace, famous for its grandiose white and gold façade and elaborate gardens. Afterwards enjoy a highlight lunch at the old-world wooden Podvorie restaurant.

    Tonight you’ll be treated to a glass of sparkling wine, followed by a private Russian ballet concert at the majestic Palace of Prince Vladimir.

  5. Day 5 - St. Petersburg

    A special highlight awaits as you visit the Hermitage, formerly the Winter Palace and home to Russia’s Imperial family. Today it houses one of the world’s most magnificent art collections. Tonight, join your fellow guests on the Sun Deck as your ship sets sail down the Neva River.

  6. Day 6 - Mandrogi

    Explore this charming museum village and its distinctive buildings and perhaps try shashlik, a traditional meal similar to shish kebab.

  7. Day 7 - Kizhi Island

    Dock at Kizhi Island, an open air museum with a precious collection of wooden churches and chapels. View the Church of the Transfiguration with its 22 timbered onion domes, easily amongst the most magnificent examples of wooden architecture in Russia, if not the world.

  8. Day 8 - Goritsy

    Explore the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery, built in 1397 and home to a wonderful collection of Russian Orthodox icons. Toast the occasion with a little vodka, the beverage integral to Russian culture for over 600 years.

    Explore the fascinating and ancient city of Yaroslavl and visit the Fine Art Museum.

  13. Day 13 - Moscow

    Visit the Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics, where you’ll have the opportunity to meet a real cosmonaut and learn about the history of space exploration, with original exhibits and models relating to space technology, history and art.

    Visit the State Tretyakov Gallery or explore the fascinating Museum of the Great Patriotic War commonly known as the World War II museum.

  14. Day 14 - Moscow

    Your day begins with a visit to the Kremlin, the intriguing seat of the former Soviet Union.
