After falling in love with the ‘City of Sails’, Auckland you’ll discover ancient kauri forests and the spectacular beauty and historical significance of the Bay of Islands. Explore ‘Middle Earth’ before taking in the geothermal wonders of Rotorua. Continue with a visit to Wellington before hopping on a ferry to the South Island. Sample crisp Sauvignon Blanc in its place of origin, marvel at the diverse marine life along the East Coast before arriving in Christchurch. This city will delight with its resilience and positive outlook before you take one of the world’s great train journeys – the TranzAlpine. The Franz Josef Glacier is a highlight, as is the energy and passion of Queenstown. Milford Sound is simply breathtaking and waking up to the view of Mount Cook will be a treasured memory for years to come.

30 Day Itinerary

  1. Day 1 - Depart the UK

    Fly with Qantas or Emirates to either Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore or Bangkok from London Heathrow, Manchester, Newcastle, Birmingham or Glasgow for a three-night stopover. Alternatively, fly to Singapore with Singapore Airlines from London Heathrow or Manchester or to Hong Kong with Air New Zealand from London Heathrow. Regional flights are available from £95 per person. Please enquire for more stopover options.

  2. Day 2 - Stopover

    Upon arrival at your stopover destination, you will be met by a local representative and transferred to your hotel before having free time to explore.

  3. Day 3 - Stopover

    After breakfast you can explore the city with an included Freechoice excursion (not included for Sentosa stays), enquire for details. Of course, we also give you the freedom to explore independently.

  6. Day 6 - Arrive Auckland

    Welcome to Auckland. You’ll be met at the airport by a Scenic Representative for a two-night Special Stay at the Grand Millennium Hotel. The wonders of New Zealand begin here. Celebrate your journey and meet your fellow guests at a welcome dinner.

  7. Day 7 - Auckland

    Choose from a range of Auckland’s attractions. Enjoy an exhilarating sail on an authentic America’s Cup yacht and be part of the crew, take the helm or simply sit back and enjoy the ride as you sail Auckland Harbour. Or explore the wine and cuisine of Waiheke Island and enjoy tastings of olive oil, wine and beer as well as a vineyard tour. Alternatively, take a leisurely morning cruise of Auckland’s beautiful harbour and see highlights including Devonport and the Harbour Bridge, or discover the Waitakere Ranges, as you walk in the lush rainforest and stroll along the black sand beaches. Or, choose to join a small group tour and discover the history and sights of Auckland.

    Your dining choices for tonight include a sunset dinner yacht cruise, Degree Gastrobar, Orbit 360 Restaurant at Sky City or dinner at the hotel’s Grand Millennium Brasserie.

  8. Day 8 - Auckland > Omapere

    Travel north across Auckland’s busy Harbour Bridge, along the Hibiscus Coast towards the Bay of Islands. Visit Matakohe’s award-winning Kauri Museum and gain an insight into the rich pioneering history of New Zealand’s Northland region. The museum specialises in the legacy of the ancient kauri forests, specifically the strong durable timber and the highly prized kauri gum. Continue to the Waipoua Forest, an ancient green world of towering trees and rare birds, and travel past natural gateways created by huge kauri trees and the fringing of colourful ferns along the road’s edge.

    The sense of awe you feel as you see the mighty Tane Mahuta kauri tree for the first time is unforgettable. Listen to the interactive interpretation from your local Maori guide about the importance of the ‘Lord of the Forest’ to both the natural environment and the Maori people.

    Watch the sunset on Hokianga Bay with a drink on the terrace of your hotel.

  9. Day 9 - Omapere > Paihia

    Cruise the calm inland waters of the Bay of Islands with lunch included or enjoy a ferry ride to Russell, the birthplace of European settlement in New Zealand. Alternatively, discover the very best of the Bay on a scenic cruise and journey through the Hole in the Rock (weather permitting).

    Your base for the next two nights is Paihia.

  10. Day 10 - Paihia

    Travel to the very top of New Zealand – Cape Reinga. Explore the magnificent lighthouse and see where the waters of the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean meet. Discover this remote and magical place of deep spiritual significance to the Maori then enjoy the thrill of travelling along Ninety Mile Beach and marvel at the immense sand dunes.

  11. Day 11 - Paihia > Auckland

    Discover the birthplace of modern New Zealand at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds with a Maori guide

    Enjoy an authentic Maori cultural performance inside the beautifully carved meeting house.

    Later, return to your hotel in Auckland for your overnight Special Stay.

  12. Day 12 - Auckland > Rotorua

    Lose yourself in ‘Middle Earth’ on your visit to the Hobbiton Movie Set. Travelling through the rolling farm land of the Waikato, arrive in Rotorua, home of M-a ori culture and bubbling mud pools. Explore the National Kiwi Trust’s kiwi hatchery and nursery on a guided tour. Enjoy your two night stay at  Rotorua.

  13. Day 13 - Rotorua

    Be amazed by Rotorua’s unique geothermal activity during a visit to Te Puia.

    Witness a sheep show or take an amphibious duck tour of Rotorua’s city and lakes. Alternatively, relax in the geothermal pools or travel via gondola to Skyline Rotorua for extensive views over the city and winetasting.

    Immerse yourself in Maori traditions and culture at your authentic hangi dinner tonight.

  15. Day 15 - Napier > Wellington

    Take a walking tour through Napier’s Art Deco buildings, view the famous landmarks of Napier on a vintage car tour or discover a diverse range of aquatic animals and wildlife at the Napier Aquarium.

  16. Day 16 - Wellington

    Uncover Wellington’s sights on your city tour before visiting the Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa.

  17. Day 17 - Wellington > Blenheim

    Travel in the premium lounge on the ferry across the Cook Strait to start your discovery of the South Island.

    Choose wine tasting at the home of Sauvignon Blanc or visit Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre.

  18. Day 18 - Blenheim > Christchurch

    Drive along the spectacular east coast where rugged mountains meet the ocean. Your base for the next two nights is Christchurch.

    Go punting on the Avon River, take a tour of the Botanic Gardens or see Christchurch by open top bus. Alternatively, visit the seaside town of Akaroa or the International Antarctic Centre – the choice is yours.

    Experience a Kiwi home-hosted dinner with a local family or enjoy dinner at the hotel’s restaurant.

  20. Day 20 - Christchurch > Franz Josef

    Join the TranzAlpine for your rail journey across the Southern Alps. Stand in wonder at Franz Josef Glacier before your overnight Special Stay.

  24. Day 24 - Queenstown > Milford Sound

    In the darkness of Te Anau caves, see the shimmer of thousands of glow worms. Tonight, you’ll sleep surrounded by the majesty of Milford Sound on board the Milford Mariner. Anchor in a sheltered cove where you’ll have the opportunity to explore the area in a small boat or kayak.

  25. Day 25 - Milford Sound > Dunedin

    Awake to breathtaking beauty in Milford Sound. Later, travel to Dunedin for two nights.

    Choose between Speight’s Brewery, Etrusco and the hotel’s Carlton Restaurant.

  26. Day 26 - Dunedin

    Take a guided tour of Larnach Castle or visit the breeding colony of Royal Albatross. Alternatively, cruise Otago Harbour or take the scenic Taieri Gorge Railway.

  27. Day 27 - Dunedin > Mount Cook

    Visit the Moeraki Boulders, a unique sight featuring huge spherical boulders scattered across a sandy beach. Enjoy a Special Stay at your hotel in Mount Cook.

  28. Day 28 - Mount Cook > Christchurch

  29. Day 29 - Christchurch > UK

    After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight home. If you’re not ready for your journey to end, we can arrange an inbound stopover in one of many exciting destinations.
