1. See where the Moselle meets the Rhine in Koblenz

World Heritage-listed Koblenz is found right where the Moselle meets the mighty Rhine River.

During a Scenic Freechoice excursion, guests can join a walking tour of the 2,000-plus-year-old city. Spot the Kaiser Wilhelm I memorial, the Deutsches Eck — the “German Corner” where the rivers meet, and the 11th-century fortress that overlooks Koblenz and its two converging rivers.

Alternatively, hop on an e-bike to cover more ground and explore more of this historic city, which is one of the oldest in Germany.

2. Visit the Medieval Burg Eltz

Head inland slightly to visit Burg Eltz, a castle not far from the Moselle that has been owned by the same family for 900 years. It is thought of as the most beautiful castle in Europe, and it’s easy to see why.

Outside, the 12th-century castle has all the towers and turrets of a fairy-tale setting and is surrounded by the dense Eltz Forest. Inside, many of the original furnishings are still intact and you can see centuries-old artworks, weaponry and a 500-exhibit Treasury.

3. Discover the Magical Town of Cochem

With its half-timbered houses, winding alleys and 14th-century gates and city walls, Cochem offers a lot to discover. This town is a much-loved favourite of Scenic guests year after year.

During a guided tour, visit the medieval Reichsburg Castle. It’s one of the largest castles on the Moselle and sits on the highest hill above the river and town. Take in the castle’s pointed turrets, stained-glass windows and towering stone walls, all of which make it look like something straight out of a fairy-tale.

Looking for something more active? Hop on a complimentary Scenic e-bike and discover the township’s many attractions on a guided tour.

4. Attend an Exclusive Classical Concert in Trier

Germany’s oldest city, Trier was founded in 16 B.C. during Roman times, and the proof can be seen all around the streets.

Spot the Porta Nigra, or Black Gate, one of the best-preserved Roman city gates in the region, and Hauptmarkt Square, an open-air market complete with a 14th-century, 19-metre-high fountain called Schöner Brunnen.

Scenic guests can go beyond sightseeing with an exclusive Scenic Enrich event. Enjoy a private classical concert in the surrounds of the impressive Liebfrauenkirche, a World Heritage-listed Gothic church located in the heart of Trier and take in awe-inspiring music whilst admiring an ancient castle to match.

5. Sip Moselle-Made wines in Bernkastel

Bernkastel may be a tiny town in Middle Moselle, but it has a lot to offer.

Join a walking tour to get up close to the 17th-century half-timbered houses lining the Moselle River. Discover Bernkastel’s Marktplatz — one of the best-preserved medieval market squares in Germany, the Renaissance Rathaus town hall, and Spitzhäuschen, or Pointed House, is one of the town’s oldest structures and quirkiest buildings.

Alternatively, visit a winery to explore the sloping vineyards that surround Bernkastel and learn all about why this area is one of the best in the world at producing Rieslings.

Of course, your visit to a vineyard is only complete with a taste of the finished product in the traditional cellar doors, so you can see what the fame is about.

During a full day of cruising, sit back with your favourite drink in hand as steep vineyards, hilltop castles and iconic half-timbered houses float by, curious to see what incredible sight will appear around the next river bend.

Be carried by the alluring historic waterways while indulging in world-class dining experiences and relaxing on the expansive Sun Deck or in the Panorama Lounge with friends old and new.
